ITALIAN ARTS & GARDEN TOUR 2009

August 5th, 2008

‘I am pleased to announce that there will be a Jacqueline Coates Arts and Garden Tour  to Italy next year.

After last year’s tour I travelled back to Italy and met up with Barbara and Ugo Mariotti from Tuscany Under the Skin, who are not only locals to Tuscany but experienced tour guides happy to specialise in requests such as mine. We came up with the attached program along with Leslie their helpful Sydney based consultant.

I was lucky enough to be taken around by Barbara and Ugo to many of these very special places to presample the menu and I experienced their warm hospitality,  and their intimate knowledge of Tuscany that  make this trip unique and  unforgettable.

This year the tour will cater for a small group only so numbers for lucky participants are very limited. If you are interested to come on the trip, please email me and I will send you the booking form and final itinerary in the last week of August. Places will go on a first in basis. The finalised details will be here on the website towards the end of August. And of course there will be the chance to sketch and paint if you want to, and my tuition on hand if you would like it.’

Jac’s first blog!

July 31st, 2008

Hi and welcome to my blog . . . which shows you day to day aspects of Jacqueline Coates Studio.

For the first expose, I invite you into my recent painting workshops. These include Paint a Large Canvas workshops held in Sydney in late June, my first ever children’s workshops at my barn (home) in Kapunda during the school holidays, and my new offering, The Painted Garden. I will also give you a sneek peek at the Salon Rouge Gallery Renovations.Paint a Large Canvas Workshop - Sydney June 08In three days participants created a 90 x 120cm finished painting. Many had never painted before or certainly not since high school. I provide easy and accessible techniques and participants are always amazed at what they can achieve. We work with acrylics and finish with oil glazes.Next Paint a Large Canvas workshops: Sydney November 27, 28, 29, 30  Children’s Workshops Kapunda July 08I created three different workshops; Superheroes and Fairies where we painted onto canvas pieces, Collage where we created a series of gift cards, a decorated bottle and a candle using collage, and finally, a circus themed wax workshop where each child produced a series of oil and wax paintings on boards.Next children’s workshop: Thursday of last week of October school holidays. The Painted Garden Working with melted beeswax and oil paints we explored garden themes, starting with small sample boards to practice techniques, then moving up in size. The group were soon off and running after my initial demo. Participants produced seven to ten pieces each. Another day was set by request for them to come back and do more.Next formal class is November….Salon Rouge Gallery, KapundaLast year I purchased an old mechanic’s workshop in Kapunda, a series of sheds that join to create 320 square metres. Although a little rough around the edges, I felt it had great promise as a creative space for painting workshops and displaying my work. The new space seemed to suggest a gallery, so Salon Rouge Gallery was conceived. So far there have been roof repairs, ventilation, pipes replaced, an entire concrete slab replaced and tinted chocolate, the floors polished and sealed, and carpentered lids put in place over mechanic’s pits. The gallery has been gyprocked and painted and now the foyer and entrance area as well as my studio is being lined and lighting systems chosen.I won’t reveal all, but sown in the images are the chandelier I chose for the entrance and a snapshot of the gallery doors at Harry Makris’ Keyneton workshop getting ready to be the grand entrance at Salon Rouge. More next blog!
