Painted Garden Series 2008 - Oil and Beeswax on board.
Since visiting Europe in my teenage years and for many subsequent trips I have been intrigued by European gardens, with their formal layouts, hedged rooms, mazes, topiaries verging on the hysterical, fountains and statues.
From small and bejewelled to large scale and grand, I am drawn in fascination to their characters and history.
Gardens of Paris, Chateau de Villandry, Versailles, and evocative gardens painted from memory are the subject matter.
In this series of small works on board, I have worked with fragrant beeswax melted with oil paints, and also painted directly into the surface in a traditional oil paint manner. The works are textured and rich..
They have been mounted ready to hang, having a depth of 1.5cm, with D rings attached.
All works can be bubble wrapped and posted.
